betting on boxing

A sport of English origin, boxing appeared at the beginning of the 20th century. From its beginnings, it triggered the popular fervour of the French, who raised great professional boxers like Marcel Cerdan to the rank of national heroes.

What do I have to do to bet on boxing matches?

To be able to bet on boxing matches, you must first go to a sports betting site. There are a lot of sports betting sites on the Internet and the most well-known ones all offer boxing bets. Take a look at several sites before choosing the one that suits you: compare the bonuses offered, the ergonomics of the site and the means of payment accepted. Once you’ve made your choice, create an account on the site, and you’ll be ready to bet.

What are the basics you need to know about boxing before you bet?

There are four major international professional associations that organise fights:

  • the WBA (World Boxing Association);
  • the WBC (World Boxing Council);
  • the WBO (World Boxing Organization);
  • the IBF (International Boxing Federation).

Boxers are classified according to their weight in several categories ranging from Rooster to Heavyweight.

A fight is played in 12 rounds of 3 minutes each.

A fight can end in one of two ways:

  • by knockout: if one of the opponents falls and does not get up when the referee has finished counting to 10, or if he gets up but the referee considers that he is not in a condition to continue the fight (technical knockout).
  • on points: if both opponents finish the fight, the judges will designate the winner, and in this case it will be a victory on points.

What kind of bets can I place on a boxing match?

In boxing, you can bet on:

  • the result of the match: will such and such a boxer be the winner? Will the fight end in a draw? It’s up to you to decide!
  • the number of rounds: the bet is in the form: “more than so many rounds” or “less than so many rounds”.
  • the result method: who will win and by what means? Will the favourite win by KO or the underdog win by points? It’s up to you to guess!

Betting on rounds: you have to find the winner of each round (you choose which round you want to bet on).

Group round bet: You have to predict the winner of rounds 1-3, 4-6, 7-9 or 10-12.

Can I make a lot of money betting on boxing?

In boxing, as in all sports betting, there is a certain amount of chance. However, you will have a better chance of winning by betting on the favourite, but your win will be less. By taking the risk of betting on the underdog, you will have less chance of winning, but your eventual payout will be much higher. It’s up to you to decide whether you prefer to play it safe or aim for the “big one”. In any case, don’t forget that in boxing nothing is impossible and that an uppercut can come quickly!
